A Significant Contribution

Contrary to the review by Mr. Araujo, which makes little sense, Professor Menchaca has produced a stunning contribution to current understandings of the Mexican and Mexican American or Chicano experience. Having previously reviewed this book in other contexts, I know all too well the details that make this book significant. In addition to the substantive body of information presented on the cultural contexts and legislative practices that undergird the Mexican American cultural experience, Menchaca's acknowledgement of the African American contribution in said experience, and the legislative and juridical practices that served to disenfranchise people of color in the US Southwest, are all key to what she has to say. Her discussion of the Hispanic colonial Missions and their role in the creation of the Hispanicized Indian communities of the US Southwest is in turn illuminating. Contrary to prevailing anti-Hispanic and or anti-Catholic views of the Mission era, Menchaca makes clear that the hispanicization of the California Indian, for instance, permitted most California Indians of the early American era to assimilate into Mexican and Mexican American communities. This process, she argues, allowed California Indian descendants to survive and prosper under what was otherwise a brutal and genocidal system of early American behavior toward American Indian communities. These critically significant points of departure, and Menchaca's very readable prose, make this a must-have addition to any library on the Mexican American cultural experience.

An excellent starting point

Professor Menchaca's text provides an excellent survey and introduction into the development of ethnic identity in Mexico. 'Scholars' like M.J. Araujo would be well served to read this text with an open mind as the content, backed up by true research, counters a great deal of what has been commonly thought about Mexican ethnic -- and so-called racial -- identity.

Comprehensive, yet easy to follow

I've always been interested in programming, so I enjoy collecting books on the subject. Granted, I've learned not to expect too much when it comes to the free/low priced books, which was what made this one such a nice surprise. The structure is excellent, the exercises fully explained and easy to understand, whether you're an absolute novice or someone who's trying to brush up on prior knowledge. Learning a new programming language always seems like a daunting task, but this book stays true to what it advertises: it really does help you progress quickly, making it possible to learn C++ in a single day. Definitely one I'd recommend for any aspiring programmer, and I look forward to checking out other books by this author!

C++ in 8 hours is a great book for anyone looking to learn C++ from scratch. I have never used any coding language before and I am an absolute beginner meaning a lot of material I have read before this was over my head. The book is clear, well-written and teaches you in an easy to follow way. The book delivers is promises and teaches you C++ in around 8 hours. I have now moved onto some of the more advanced books I had purchased but now I can understand them and I already know the basics.

Overall a great book to get you started with C++. Easy to follow even for absolute beginners and delivers exactly what it promises on the cover.

I couldn't recommend this book more. It's fantastic resource. I've studied C++ in classes and on my own with other resources, and this book is definitely one of the best, clearest resources for understanding the language.
The information in the book is good, it is concise and easy to follow for beginners. Sometimes it is hard to follow some books but this one does a very good job of breaking the subjects down into chapters and building from chapter to chapter with clear explanations. I think that the author have a great deal of experience in C++ as well as making it very easy to apply. This is something just for anyone who is looking for a great step by step guide in C++ programming.

Steven J. Heine is Professor of Social and Cultural Psychology and Distinguished University Scholar at the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on meaning, genetic essentialism, and cultural influences on motivations. He has published over seventy articles in such periodicals as Science, Nature, Behavioral and Brain Sciences, and Psychological Review. He received the Distinguished Scientist Early Career Award for Social Psychology from the American Psychological Association in 2003 and the Career Trajectory Award from the Society of Experimental Social Psychology in 2011. Good overview of some important content in cultural psychology

Good overview of some important content in cultural psychology. New edition took out lots of stuff on attachment and rightly so as there isn't a lot of evidence to support most of it. What I don't like is the narcissistic use of personal experience. Also, can you say SELF-CITATIONS? Heine presents the research as if he invented the field.

Maybe Udemy can allow me to take my business to the next level.

Wow this program is big, alot of potential!!! I have heard about Udemy from a few YouTubers and did not know what the name meant so I decided to find out more about this subject. Udemy seems to be a great platform for people to share their knowledge with other people and the best part both parties don't have to leave their homes. The instructors records their training sessions and their students can watch these recordings in the privacy of their own home via the internet, at a small price. Amazing for both the instructors and trainee.

All the information I need about Udemy is in this book which allows me the opportunity to evaluate if this is something I would like to get into to take my business to the next level.

Great Series for young adults and us oldies

I loved this second book in the trilogy and was not disappointed at all by the plot. This novel like the first is captivating and Gemma's internal conflict because of her sense of loyalty is commendable even if a little naive, but then she is little more than a child. The introduction of Gabe intensifies things and culminates in a very suspenseful cliffhanger that makes the next book impossible to resist. Excellent reading from a very good author.

MAGICAL!!

I would like to begin the review of this excellent book by advising those who have not read Golden Blood, the first in the trilogy, to go back and read that before you read Black Blood. Gemma Heart is trying to enjoy the summer with her boyfriend Harrison Granger, before her senior year. But memories of the strange man on the beach and his warnings haunt and frighten her. Her parents, still not happy with her choice of boyfriend, are also not exactly making things easy for them.

The discovery of who exactly Gabe the mysterious man is, throws Gemma into a turmoil bringing into question who she truly is and who her true family is. More questions arise when her father starts acting secretively and going on missions into the past to retrieve the arrow head necklaces of the electus. And why are these expeditions making Gemma so tired?

The final straw comes when Gemma is forced to go back with her family to change history; thus not only ruining Gemma's dreams, but also altering the lives of countless others.

This brilliantly told story deals with horrific betrayal and extreme selfishness. On the other hand it also shows that true love can survive gruelling tests and frightful disagreements. The characters with their very realistic personalities crept even deeper into my heart during this book. The anxiety and suspense in the story are countered by the tender love scenes between Gemma and Harrison.

The author's habit of stating the time and place of each event helped me understand exactly where I was in the story. All this makes Black Blood a comfortably paced and yet enthralling read. I would recommend this book to young adults and adults alike. After reading this book which is more than deserving of its 5 stars, I can't wait to read the next book and hopefully many more by Melissa Pearl. (Ellen Fritz)

On the edge of my seat

The second book in Melissa Pearl's trilogy doesn't disappoint as we follow Gemma and Harrison on their journey.

A surprising twist brings the reader to the edge of their seat and hearts to the throat...well, my reaction anyway, as Gemma continues her struggle against her family to keep her relationship with Harrison.

Pearl continues to build her story to a wonderful crescendo, leaving the end hanging so the reader is compelled to go straight out and buy part 3...which is what I'll be doing as soon as I'm finished here...just kidding, it's already safely tucked onto my Kobo for tomorrow's lunchtime reading :)

Although I have to say I guessed one of the little plot twists at the beginning of part 1, it has only added to the reader interest and I'm keen to see how the conclusion pans out now that the cat is (almost) out of the bag...

I feel I've stumbled onto a winner with Melissa Pearl and I look forward to a long reader/writer relationship, way beyond her trilogy.

Medical scribing essential to medical practice survival

This is an excellent basic training tool for medical scribes. We are currently training and cross-training all staff as scribes. Survival in an EHR environment demands that the massive added workload imposed by EHR be removed from physicians, and scribing goes a long way toward achieving this goal.

I was looking for a textbook to teach scribing for electronic health records. The material is okay, but not really adequate for a college course.

Delivery was speedy, but I expected the book to be more about the actual documenting rather than the exam itself. I'm familiar with how my doctor examines and prescribes medications- I need to learn more about documentation.
