Good - but could be great

Good - but could be great, the paper for the cards is not card-stock or index card weight, feel - however the rings work well and hold it together - just wish the pages were perforated and higher paper weight overall - so they would be easier to take off the rings and use.

Thousands Overlooked

First of all, I would like to commend the author for his in depth research, complete with footnotes and bibliography, that appears to document the history of Military Police units in Europe. The key word in the last sentence is "units" because the book completely missed the mark of all Military Police serving in Europe during the time frame of his historical publication. I am sure the readers that were assigned to Military Police units will enjoy and share the contents of the book with fellow soldiers from those units. I did find the history depicted in the book and, as a former Military Policeman, I found great pride in reading about the exploits and service that our Corps provided during the rehabilitation and growth of post-war Germany. However, for those MP's assigned to non-military police units but served in a Military Police position this book is not for you. You are once again forgotten in the overall scheme of Military Police operations in Europe.

Those of us who guarded classified mission stocks while assigned to Ordnance, Field Artillery batteries, or Army Air Defense units remain in the shadows. In addition, to those who peformed law enforcement or combat support duties in Area Support Groups and/or Support Commands you too must remain a proud but undocumented Military Policeman as far as the history of the Military Police Corps is concerned. I, for one, salute the thousands of Military Police men and women who performed their duties outside the "normal" MP unit command structure even though your job and task was every bit as important.

Enjoyed reviewing the book

I served in Austra and France during 1955 and then in France in 1956. I found the information to be very interesting. The reseach must of taken several years to compile. I planning on providing the author with additional information on the Military Police Highway Patrol units operating in the Northeast portion of France during 1955 qand 1956.

About the Author

Dr.Ing. Gerhard Pahl graduated from the Technical College of Darmstadt in 1954 and spent the next 10 years involved with the initial start-up, construction and development of turbomachines with Brown, Boveri and Cie. During the years between 1965 and 1990, Dr.Ing. Pahl was professor for Mechanical Components and Engineering Design at the Technical College of Darmstadt. He was vice-president of the German Research Foundation from 1978 to 1984 and is a member of the Berlin Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences.

Dr.Ing. Joerg Feldhusen graduated from the Technical University of Berlin in 1989. Between 1989 and 1994 he was the department head of Electronic Design at AEG Westinghouse Transportation Systems, Berlin. He then went on to become head of design and development of the Duewag railway vehicle manufacturing company, Duesseldorf, followed by technical manager of Siemens Light Rail, Düsseldorf and Erlangen. In 1999 he was made professor for Engineering Design and in 2000 director of the Institute for General Mechanical Engineering Design Technology of the Technical College of Rhineland-Westphalia in Aachen.

Dr.Ing. Karl Grote graduated from DO Berlin in 1984 and then studied for his Postdoc in the USA. In 1990 he became professor at the California State University, Long Beach, USA, before moving to the OvG Univ. Magdeburg in 1995. The reference book for Systematic Approach to design!

Great, complete and really useful! When I approached this book I had only a vague idea about the argument (plus some understanding about QFD)... but now I can say I have enough knowledge about "Systematic Approach to Design" to apply on the job what I read in this book! No matter if you are a PM or "only" a designer: you should have this book on your desk!

This book probably has some real good technical content. The problem is, I cant get myself to read it. Yeah, most technical engineering books aren't real exciting, but I enjoy them anyway. Most of them I pick up and read in a somewhat cover to cover style, but this book is way to boring. I tried a few times to keep reading, hoping that it would get to part where I might learn some good "Engineering Design" stuff. Unfortunately, I think I have given up on it. Now I have another very expensive shelf weight.

This saved my marriage

My husband was planning on leaving (after 20 years). We bought this book on tape and the one "For women only". These totally turned our marriage around. We were both willing to act on what we learned. I listened to "For Men only" as well and it reassured me that much of how I am is exactly how I should be as a woman. It gave my husband a deep understanding of how I "operate". We both said that we wish we had learned this when we were younger. I've recommended it to all my friends. I finally have the marriage I had always wanted.

Transformed us and our marriage

I've probably read over thirty marriage books in the twenty years we've been married, plus numerous blogs and articles. Asking my husband what his thoughts and dreams are, what he'd like to change in our marriage, etc etc etc. Lots of things were helpful. But nothing was truly transforming the way this book and its companion, For Women Only, have been.

We truly feel like newlyweds again except without any of the painful mistakes that newlyweds make. My husband said that this book really opened his eyes to so many things.

And, each of us was surprised to know that our inner hurts and struggles were actually very common for our gender! It was actually a big relief.

Pray for yourself, pray for your spouse, pray for your marriage, and read these books together. There is a spectrum for everything so talk about what applies to you and what doesn't.

My husband rarely writes reviews on books so I'll recap what he told me about this book: "Some of the key points in this book I already knew in a vague way (after 20 years of marriage) but didn't know how to apply that to improve myself. And there were a few things that truly shocked me, like finding out you don't know how beautiful you are! Or that you wonder, so frequently, if I regret marrying you! Now I know what your heart longs for and I will give that to you, every day of my life. I will never stop pursuing you!"

This book is a must read for every man..... I am a husband that has failed horribly in my relationship of 33 years..... If asked before I would have said "I am not so bad".... But the reality is... I was horrible......"was"..... Today I am a transformed husband...(10 months).... I vow to make amends with my champion of a wife.....regardless of our future.....she deserves at least that

Excellent introduction to splines for the non-mathematician

One of the greates assets of this book is that it is fairly comprehensive while still using a minimum amount of mathematics. The style is lucid, easy to follow; the numerous C-like algorithms can be adapted to one's own use, and deal with the most important aspect of NURBS. This is easily the best introductory NURBS text. The only problem I see is the lack of discussion for ray-surface intersection tests, which are necessary if NURBS are to be rendered by raytracing. I recommend "The Nurbs Book" to any engineers and graphics professionals interested in curved surfaces.

Good reference for implementers who are familiar with NURBS

This book is best for those who have at least become familiar with Bezier and NURBS curves and surfaces and want to start implementing some programs.
The illustrations are not as clear as they could be so it may make it a little difficult for first-timers to understand. If you're unfamiliar with Bezier and NURBS curves then "Curves and Surfaces for CAGD" by Farin is probably a better place to start. But if you get Farin's book make sure to get the 5th edition since earlier editions aren't as clear.
With that said there is a wealth of information about creating and manipulating NURBS geometry in this book. All explanations are followed by code implementation. The code is a little difficult to understand at first, but if you stick with it you'll understand their coding style.

Perfect for the programmer working with NURBS.

I have a reasonable if dated math background, but I'm not a mathematician, I'm a programmer. I was able to work through enough of the math to extract very practical and useful knowledge for my graphics programming work.
I've gone through 3 other graphics book trying to get enough clear information on NURBs, but they were all either inadequate or obscure.
"The NURBS Book" is the one you want.

Amazing and disturbing biography of a teen killer - and city in turmoil

This book, written by one of the leading investigative reporters in Mexico, is a gripping account of how a young man plots to kill his parents and younger sister, plans to blame organized criminals and collect a ransom - and never dreams he'll be caught. Author Sandra Rodriguez seizes this outrageous and horrifying teenaged crime in Ciudad Juarez as a metaphor and a symptom of a deeper sickness caused by his home town's unceasing violence and turmoil. Rodriguez puts the intelligent, resentful and manipulative young man in context of the society of Juarez, a city where shootings and kidnappings have become common and where police, prosecutors and politicians are considered corrupt and inept. Then she goes deeper, bringing the reader the full story of how the teen does get caught - and then how the homicide case and he move through the criminal justice system, juvenile detention and prison and finally emerge back onto the streets at an even darker time in Juarez history. An amazing and well-written story loaded with dramatic scenes, compelling details and important information.
